- Aircraft carrying 70 passengers and took off from German island Sylt yesterday
This is the terrifying moment a propeller plane is battered by 70mph winds as it lands at an airport in Amsterdam.
The dramatic footage shows the plane being blown from side to side by an intense storm as it descended onto the runway at Schipol Airport yesterday.
Despite the extreme gusts, the pilot manages to keep their nerve and bring the aircraft to the runway safely using a technique known as ‘crosswind landing’.

For nervous fliers, crosswind landings can be terrifying, but pilots receive thorough training on how to perform them.
On approach, they bring the plane in sideways to keep the nose lined up with the runway – it’s a technique known as a ‘crab’ landing.
As the nail-biting clip begins, the wind blows the plane with so much force that it almost spins it right around.
