PLAYER RATINGS: Kane capped busy display with equaliser, but Mount and Sterling had an off night

England were spared a second successive Nations League defeat as Harry Kane’s 50th goal for his country, a coolly-taken late penalty, salvaged a 1-1 draw away to Germany on Tuesday.

Germany deservedly led through Jonas Hofmann’s 50th-minute effort but were unable to finish England off and Kane levelled in the 88th minute after being tripped in the area.

After suffering a first defeat by Hungary for 60 years on Saturday in their opening League A, Group Three fixture, England fielded an experienced line-up in a noisy Allianz Arena but were second best for much of the clash

Busy night. Beaten by a poor goal to concede but fared better to deny Muller and Werner after.

Key, early goal-line clearance in tough first half when exposed and outnumbered. Better second period.

Played his part in a disjointed defensive display. Just across too late to prevent Hofmann scoring.

HARRY MAGUIRE 6

Lucky to escape after tussling with Havertz rather than dealing with ball before disallowed goal.

Midfielder Mason Mount struggled to make an impact and was replaced by Jack Grealish

KIERAN TRIPPIER 6.5

Couple of sloppy moments mixed with some timely defending playing in a less familiar left-back role.

Occasionally outnumbered but got through fair share of important and alert work in middle.

Suffered early knock in typically robust challenge. Tried to run it off but failed and forced off.

BUKAYO SAKA 6

Not as involved as he would have liked but managed to worry Neuer on a couple of occasions.

Declan Rice was occasionally outnumbered but got through fair share of important work

Few flashes of trademark movement, energy and pressing in first half, and goal threat in second but not enough.

Looked capable of posing threat in behind but unable to get into the game enough to influence it.

Involved throughout. Coolly reached his half century from spot after missing two chances he’d expect to take.
