Plus-size blogger who lost 67kg can’t get a date anymore

When Kelly Glover tipped the scale at 152 kilos, men were asking her out everywhere she went.

From the coffee shop to the gym and even an Uber carpool, it was never a struggle for the plus-size blogger to get a date.

But after the 39-year-old lost 67 kilos, everything changed.

‘For months I couldn’t figure it out. Why was it that the smaller I got the less interested the single men got?’ she asked in an essay for Mamamia.

Kelly said that everything changed after she dropped from 152 kilos to 84 kilos

Plus-size blogger Kelly Glover, 39, was shocked when she realised she got asked out on more dates before she lost 67 kilos

It has been an unexpected side effect of extreme weight loss for Kelly, who now weighs 84 kilos and dropped from a size 24 to a size 18.

Kelly lost the weight after moving back to Sydney from Los Angeles, where she realised her plus-size figure was truly a plus in the dating world.

Hollywood had completely transformed her romantic life. Kelly was asked out on more dates after just one month in America compared to a decade in Australia.

‘I was exactly the same person; same personality, same looks, and same weight. The only thing that was different was the location. It changed everything,’ Kelly revealed in a Mamamia essay in May.

But the blogger, who had gastric sleeve surgery, assumed her slimmed down figure would help keep the dates rolling in once she returned home.

So Kelly was baffled when she found out that the dating pool was drier than ever.

Like any good journalist, she decided to conduct some research and reached out to a male friend she knew would be ‘honest’ with her.

Kelly asked him why no one wanted to date her since she had lost weight, and his response was as blunt as she had hoped.

‘Well people are more confident hollering at fat chicks. They feel there is less chance of rejection, so they are more bold,’ he replied.

That’s when Kelly realised that she wasn’t getting hit on anymore because men no longer thought she was desperate and would ‘automatically say yes’.

It reminded the blogger of the ‘fat chicks are easy’ myth, which she believes is ‘complete bull’, she wrote.

‘You think fat chicks are easy? Truly pursuing a fat chick isn’t a sprint, it’s a freaking marathon!’

Kelly thus decided she would no longer wait for dates and instead ask men herself

Her friend’s Facebook message was a revelation – and inspired Kelly to make a big change in her romantic life.

Kelly has always been vocal about her dating experience, even documenting it for a series called ‘The 50 Fat Dates’ on her blog Big Curvy Love.

But no longer would she be in the background, waiting to be pursued. It was time that she hop into the driver’s seat.

And Kelly’s getting started by joining Bumble, the dating app where women have to send the first message.

‘No more plus-size passive dating from me,’ Kelly wrote, ‘No more waiting around to literally be chased by men.’
