And it looks like viewers won’t be disappointed when season four kicks off next week as a steamy new shot from the upcoming series shows Aidan Turner will be stripping off once more.

Whilst Aidan’s incredible physique has marvelled viewers, he admitted that he isn’t fazed by all the female attention.

When asked if he minds being ogled and considered a sex symbol, the star confessed: ‘No I don’t at all, go for it.’

Yet his buff physique doesn’t come naturally to him, and he is constantly under pressure to keep fit.

Despite insisting that he doesn’t hit the gym just to look good shirtless, The Hobbit star confessed: ‘I have to keep relatively fit just to fit into the costumes actually. That’s the secret.

‘Also, the fights are never too far away with Ross. So I’m always training for them – but just at the clubs at the weekend.’

Discussing the upcoming series, and the changes Ross Poldark will be going through Aidan revealed: ‘There are of course parts of that ego which make him work; he’s a gambler by nature, he’s on the front foot, he’s a hard worker and he takes chances.

‘But he wouldn’t be an interesting person to play and it wouldn’t be very truthful if he just made all the right decisions.’

Aidan also explained how Poldark copes with the realisation that Demelza [Eleanor Tomlinson] has been unfaithful with Hugh [Josh Whitehouse].

He revealed: ‘It’s not just a fling that Demelza has with Hugh. It doesn’t seem like some sort of revenge attack by her – she and Hugh properly fall for each other.

‘Ross understands what that is. Marriages and relationships are complex and they can be tricky.’

Meanwhile, behind the scenes of the hit show there has been controversy, as Eleanor Tomlinson recently hit out at the gender salary gap, claiming it is ‘no longer OK’ after it was revealed Aidan is paid more than her.

When asked if she and the Irish actor were paid the same for their roles on the BBC show, she told Red magazine: ‘My guess is no.  And while at the beginning that might have been OK – he was a bigger star than me – now I don’t think so.

‘We’re equal leads of the show, so I’d be pretty upset if the gap hadn’t closed.’

Her comments came as production firm Mammoth Screen released a statement that read: ‘Whilst we can’t and won’t disclose the details, we do pay Aidan Turner more for playing Ross Poldark as throughout all the series Ross has significantly more screen time than any other character.’

Poldark season four returns to BBC One on Sunday 10th June.
