Police arrest man for double murder after man and woman are found dead at house in early hours

Two people have died at a house in Derbyshire and a double murder investigation has been launched, police said today.

Officers were called to the property in the village of Duffield at 4.11am this morning and found a man and a woman fatally injured inside.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of two counts of murder and remains in custody, Derbyshire Police said.

Officers were called to the property in the Derbyshire village of Duffield early this morning

Two police cars and two forensics vans were at the scene this morning, with two officers standing guard – and a blue tent was erected within a cordon.

One local resident, who didn’t want to be named, told Derbyshire Live: ‘I woke up this morning and had a look outside to see what the New Year was looking like.

‘I was shocked to see all the tape and cones attached to my gate. I guess something serious happened because of the men in white suits but police won’t tell me anything.

‘Everything was fine last night and we entered 2020 fine. We went to bed at around 1am and there were lots of fireworks but nothing unusual.’

The road where the incident happened, New Zealand Lane, is closed while the police investigation continues, and the force asked anyone with information to get in touch.
