Two police officers have been caught playing table tennis when they should have been working during a raid on a commercial premises in Auckland.

The embarrassing security footage obtained by the NZ Herald showed the officers indulging in a little ping pong as other officers wandered around the property about 5am on Wednesday.

During the match, one officer noticed there was a security camera recording everything and pointed it out to the players, but they continued with the game.

The owner of the property can be heard on the vision expressing anger with the police’s behaviour.

‘New Zealand, this what we pay for… and one has just spotted my camera and realised we’re actually all on camera, but they keep on playing.

‘This is what cops do, they play games.’

Waitemata West area commander Inspector Zane Hooper told Daily Mail Australia the main part of the raid was over when the officers picked up the paddles, but that their conduct would be reviewed.

‘Once the search area and people present had been contained at the address, some of the additional police staff were required to remain at the site to assist with later duties,’ Inspector Hooper said.

‘(We) are aware of the video footage on social media which shows some of these police staff, in this downtime, playing table tennis at the premises.

‘A post-search warrant debrief will be undertaken. This video and the actions of the staff involved will be reviewed as part of this process and the learnings addressed with the respective staff.’
