A man has been charged with a host of offences including manslaughter and kidnap following the death of a mother-of-five in a car crash over the Easter weekend.

Joanne Bailey-Collinge, 34, died after her Volkswagen Polo collided with a Volkswagen Amorak and a Mercedes in Wigan at around 5.45pm on Saturday.

Her stepfather Bob Bailey said Joanne, two of her five daughters and her husband Andy were driving home to Abram near Wigan when the crash happened.

The teenager suffered serious arm, leg and hip injuries in the smash, while her husband suffered concussion.

A four-year-old girl who was also in the Polo was taken to hospital with ‘less serious injuries’, police said. She has since been released from hospital.

They are believed to be Joanne’s daughters and husband.

Joseph Pownall has also been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The 26-year-old is due to appear before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court later today.

Steven Fairclough, 42, has also been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and will also appear at the same court.

Police said a 20-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving remained in police custody on Tuesday.

The Amarok was later found abandoned in Wigan, with police confirming that searches for the occupants of the car on the day ‘are ongoing’.

Mr Bailey paid tribute to Joanne, who moved from London to Leigh as a young girl, describing her as a ‘good mum and a good daughter’.

‘Anything the kids were interested in or needed she’d do,’ he said. ‘She was a really good mum.’
