A Facebook page dedicated to locating Tibbetts said that Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Department is working with the university and social media companies on the case.

Investigators hope if they can get access to Tibetts’ laptop and online accounts, they might be able to track down an electronic footprint and zone in on her whereabouts.

‘It can be slow and frustrating, but it is our best hope of securing Mollie’s location,’ wrote Emily Heaston, Tibbetts’ cousin, wrote to the social media page.

‘Law enforcement,’ Heaston continued, ‘will also be repeating the neighborhood canvas near Mollie’s home, jogging, and work routes.’

‘The entire community was taking part in the ground search over the last two days, so many neighbors were not at their homes at the time of the first neighborhood canvas.’

‘The important part of ceasing the ground search is that those residents are home and available to speak with law enforcement,’ she added.

Poweshiek County Sheriff Tom Kriegel told the Tibbets family that ‘every farm building, barn and shed in the area has been searched,’ while door-to-door police visits will continue into the weekend.

Heaston added that the family is ‘worried sick’ and ‘desperate to get Mollie home.’

Tibbetts is described as a 5-foot-3 white woman, weighing 120 pounds.

Officials are actively searching for her. Anyone with information should call 641-623-5679.
