Police name crazed motorist who drove stolen car with fake plates at cyclists

Police have released a photo of a wanted man after a stolen car was driven at cyclists during the morning rush hour.

It has been issued by Scotland Yard detectives who have named the alleged ‘reckless driver’ as Shane Seymour.

Footage of the incident was captured by IT consultant Dave Clifton, 50, who was nearly struck by the black Audi A3- which police know was stolen and had fake number plates- in Clapham, south-west London at around 8am on Wednesday.

The Metropolitan Police has issued a handout of their main suspect in the dangerous driving incident that took on Wednesday August 1, Shane Seymour (pictured), was snapped by a cyclist’s helmet cam

Mr Clifton’s video starts with the driver yelling while stopped at traffic lights near Clapham North station.

He then swerves into a bus lane, nearly striking the cyclist for the first time.

Stopped at a further set of lights, the driver repeatedly throws debris from his car at the cyclist while hurling obscenities.

‘When the lights turned green, the driver turned his car towards the victim and drove at him at speed before changing direction,’ police said.

The Audi takes a left onto a side street where a witness said he nearly hit another cyclist, according to police.

A large group of bikers stop and the driver turns around, mounts the pavement and drives towards them.

‘It’s a stolen car,’ the driver says as they threaten to call the police.

An officer in an unmarked car turns up to cheers, but the driver reverses down Dorset Road at speed.

Mr Clifton, of Wimbledon, south west London said. ‘It’s worrying having drivers on the road like that, certainly,”It’s all just really bizarre. I don’t know if he’s just having a bad morning or what. He seems to be picking on everybody.’

Another cyclist, Graham Towler, was also nearly hit when biking to work, being nearly knocked off his bike as the driver swerved around a corner.

He said: ‘I want to get this dangerous lunatic off the roads. He could have taken me out and seriously hurt me.’

The HR director from Brixton added: ‘I’m making sure that this film is seen so that hopefully the police can catch this angry little man before it’s too late and someone is actually hospitalised because of him. He needs to be stopped.’

He said he was cycling to work in Clapham Road through Stockwell, south west London, at around 8am on Wednesday morning when another cyclist’s GoPro camera caught the moment that the Audi driver was first filmed arguing aggressively with a Vauxhall driver behind him when they’d stopped at traffic lights.

The driver is seen further along the road swerving around a corner where he narrowly missed taking out Graham, before immediately reversing back into the cyclists again.

Mr Towler is seen tapping on his window and shouting abuse as others warn him to ‘leave him alone’, while he reverses into them all again.

The driver then does a three-point turn in the side street and rams into Graham and his bike on the pavement, with Graham only managing to get out of his way in the nick of time.

He continues to attempt to drive straight into Graham, as another cyclist tells him that he’s ‘called the police’.

An appeal was issued on Sunday August 5 asking for witnesses to come forward with information about the shocking incident.

Detective Constable James Preston from Brixton CID, said: ‘We have been working hard to investigate this incident since first becoming aware of it on Wednesday 01 August – and have issued an image of our main suspect.

‘Today we are naming this man as Shane Seymour. He is known to have links to South London and the Canterbury area.

‘Have you seen him, or do you know where he is? Please contact us or Crimestoppers if so as we urgently need to speak to him in relation to this matter. If any members of the public spot him, do not approach him but call 999 straight away.

‘It is only a matter of luck that no-one was seriously injured or even killed by this reckless driver. The sooner we can apprehend him, the better.

‘We’d also still like to hear from anyone who witnessed this first-hand who have not yet come forward. Anything you may be able to remember and tell us could really help this investigation.

‘I would like to thank the public in advance for their help with our enquiries.’

Members of the public have been warned not to approach him but to call 999 immediately if he is seen.
