Police officer is ‘roasted’ by his department after daring chicken rescue

A New York police officer, who is being hailed ‘a hero… to a chicken’ he saved from becoming a roaster, is taking a ribbing from his fellow officers.

Body cam video released by the Ossining, New York, police shows Officer McGovern responding to a shed fire on Saturday.

He removed some propane tanks when he discovered the chicken.

The police department shared the video on Facebook, writing in the caption: ‘Somewhere around the first day of field training some salty cop usually hits you with, “Kid, you wouldn’t believe what goes on around here if I told you.”‘

The department joked that on Saturday McGovern had his ‘Ah Ha’ moment after he ‘smartly removed a couple of propane tanks’ and ‘swiftly went on to rescue… a chicken’.

‘Now, it’s not that we don’t love chickens. They’re just fine and certainly deserve our assistance.

‘It’s just that, if you ever wanted to get a hard time from your coworkers, be a hero… to a chicken,’ the department wrote in the hilarious Facebook post.

McGovern apparently has a love for animals. One photo from the department's Facebook page shows him after rescuing a dog named Pappy Jr (both pictured)

‘Since the “Lifesaving Award” doesn’t specifically prohibit the subject of your bravery from being poultry, we will put you in for an award because, well, this is a story that’s too good to let go of,’ the officers said.

And the jokes kept going. The department also shared the video on Twitter.

‘When we got our @axon_us Body Cameras we knew they would capture greatness!’
