Police officers injured in Plumstead as mob turns violent

  • Scotland Yard said a male, 16, was arrested on suspicion of assault on police

Four police officers were injured when 50 youths turned violent after being denied entry to a Christmas party.

The group pelted officers with bottles and other missiles after refusing to leave the area near Plumstead, south east London, on Saturday night.  

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police were called to Kellner Road, SE28 at 9pm on December 23 to reports of an unruly crowd of around 50 people causing disorder outside a private party.

‘At the scene, officers found a group of around 50 youths who had been refused entry to the party refusing to leave the area.  

‘Missiles, including bottles, were thrown at officers as they dispersed the group.

‘Four officers sustained minor injuries.  

‘A 16-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of assault on police.

‘He was taken to a south London police station and was subsequently released under investigation.

‘Officers from Greenwich investigate – enquiries continue.’
