Police put out arrest warrant for ‘affluenza’ mom after she tested positive for meth, violating bond

The mother of tearaway teen dubbed ‘affluenza boy’ is herself back behind bars after breaching her bond by failing a drugs test. 

Tonya Couch, 51, was arrested and booked into Tarrant County jail in Dallas on Thursday night.

She previously made headlines when her son Ethan Couch was spared jail under the ‘affluenza’ defense in a fatal drunk driving crash. 

Tonya had her bond revoked once before for failing a urinalysis in March.  

She had been released for just two weeks when she failed another urinalysis in June, seen with alcohol and holding a rifle at a gun show.

Tonya was charged with money laundering and hindering apprehension after she and her son, Ethan Couch, skipped the country for Mexico in 2015.

Upon Tonya’s release, she was to wear an electronic ankle bracelet so that she could be monitored and would remain at home except for doctor’s or lawyer’s appointments.

Subject to visits from her probation officer at any time, Tonya was supposed to keep the monitor on 24/7.

The mother was also ordered to take drug test routinely. 

Ethan Couch was released on probation last March. 

A psychologist at trial blamed ‘affluenza,’ or acting irresponsibly due to wealth, for his actions in a 2013 North Texas wreck that killed four.
