Police search for man who escaped custody from Queensland hospital

Desperate search underway for violent criminal, 26, who was able to flee from police custody from his HOSPITAL bed – despite being guarded by officers

  • Tiaaleagia was in custody over allegations of drug and weapon possession 
  • He also has a history of road rage incidents in which he injured two drivers  

Lui Tiaaleaiga, 26, escaped police custody from his hospital bed Saturday night

A violent criminal is on the run after allegedly escaping police custody from his hospital bed. 

Queensland Police are searching for Lui Tiaaleaiga, 26, who fled Rockhampton Base Hospital while under police guard around 7pm on Saturday.  

The man had been in custody over allegations of drug and weapon possession and had been undergoing treatment when he escaped. 

Tiaaleiaga also has a history of road rage offences, in which he injured two different drivers. 

In January 2017, Tiaaleaiga reportedly ran a driver off the road before beating him and leaving him with a broken jaw, according to The Courier-Mail. 

He was also accused of assaulting a truck driver, who sustained a broken ankle during an altercation in March.

Tiaaleaiga was jailed in October 2018 after pleading guilty to a string of offences, including assaulting a person aged over 60. 

Police have asked anyone with information to contact Policelink on 131 444.

Taaleaiga is described as Pacific Islander, 188cm, long dark curly hair, and brown eyes, and was wearing a black shirt and shorts.
