Employees at an animal shelter in Michigan arrived at work on Tuesday only to find an abandoned dog had frozen to death overnight.

A Pomeranian mix was abandoned outside the Detroit Dog Rescue at 11pm Monday night.

Shelter director Kristen Rinaldi posted surveillance photographs of of the car that abandoned the pup and is asking for help locating the person responsible.

‘Although we know this is abandonment, we really want to speak to the person to determine the full story,’ she wrote.

The temperature at 11pm was 11 degrees, and it dropped to five degrees overnight by the time the dog was discovered.

‘We are seeing a lot of dogs frozen to death right now,’ Rinaldi said to Fox 2. 

‘I hate to think that people are just that cruel. I would hate to think that someone could do that to that dog, but unfortunately we do see that.’
