A grandfather has given a tearful tribute to his grandson who was killed in his home, just one day before Christmas. 

Dwayne Wright, 26, was shot dead through the fly screen of his front door in Altona, south-west Melbourne on Sunday night.

His body was discovered inside the blood-splattered housing commission and a man has since been arrested, while two others are being questioned.

His heartbroken grandfather John Wright made a tearful video obtained by 9News in which he said: ‘I only got to know my grandson for a short time.

‘To take my grandson from me is one of the worst things you can do to a grandfather.’

He added that to take another person’s life is ‘inexcusable’.

Detectives spent the whole of Sunday night at the property, while forensic detectives were at the scene on Monday. 

They were seen removing bags of evidence from the property. 

Police arrested a 48-year-old man on Monday afternoon who is likely to be charged with murder, 9News reported.
