Porn stars reveal how their friends and family discovered their true profession

Porn stars from across the globe have shared an inside glimpse at how their friends and family discovered they work in the sex industry.

Taking anonymously to a lively thread of Reddit, the men and women revealed their experiences of being exposed as sex workers, and the reactions of their loved ones.

Many shared the funny side of their profession, with a swinger couple recalling how the husband’s father-in-law walked in on him filming a scene – and thought he was cheating on his wife.

Elsewhere a webcam girl revealed the more sinister side, admitting she felt ‘unsafe’ after her real name was exposed by an unknown viewer in a chat room.

And one woman, who moved to London to become a porn star, even revealed how her adoptive, religious family disowned her after she confessed her profession.

Kicking off the conversation, one woman explained that she was a ‘hotwife’ – meaning she would film scenes with her husband as they slept with other people.

Revealing how her family discovered their profession, she wrote: ‘I make amateur content and post it here on Reddit and on Pornhub. My cousin’s now ex-husband stumbled across my Reddit account and very awkwardly tried to tell me how great he thought my content was. It came across as weird and creepy and I kind of just dodged around his comments.’

She continued: ‘Another time my husband and I were playing with a friend of ours, and my father in law accidentally saw through the front door.

‘The worst part about that was that I couldn’t be seen from his view point, so two weeks later he tried to confront my husband about how he knew he was cheating on me, and we had to explain to him about our lifestyle. He was very embarrassed, and now likes to pretend that we aren’t into the lifestyle.’

Elsewhere a webcam girl recalled a more harrowing experience, explaining: ‘I used to be a camgirl. One time, a viewer logged on and recognized me– so he proceeded to call me by my real name in the chat, and ask how my boyfriend was doing.

‘I acted like I had no clue who he was talking about, but I have a feeling some of my other fans knew better. It felt really invasive, and could have put me in danger. I have no clue who it was to this day.’

And another webcam girl revealed her 6,000-inhabitant town all know, and have come to accept it – despite her father’s colleagues ‘teasing him’.

She wrote: ‘Former camgirl who was pretty popular for a few years. Did a few sex videos but nothing really crazy. I liked to dance and chat mostly until it became monotonous and for every die hard fan there were 25 trolls.

‘My whole town knows, fairly small 6000, my parents know including my older brother. I currently bartend and waitress and all my coworkers and owner know. So far because I make light of it, things have been chilled.

‘I don’t regret it, but I’m a grown woman now and have moved on. It really only got awkward for my dad because he was a mechanic and guys at his work would bring it up around him. But all that really says is how much of a d****e his coworkers were.’

Meanwhile, another actress recalled how she was exposed at her friend’s workplace.

‘Actual PornHub model here,’ she wrote. ‘I have a small number of personal friends that know that I am a clip artist on PornHub and also a web cam model, but I don’t tell everyone that I associate with.’

Remembering how her friend unexpectedly exposed her in front of others, she said: ‘One of my friends works in a small local store that I have been going to for years. I always chit chat with the people that work in the store, and they all know me by sight and by name.

‘One day I walk in and my friend was there and says, ‘Come to the back room,’ and so I do. As soon as I enter the back room he says, ‘Tell them what you do for a living!

‘And of course now for eternity nearly every time I enter the store someone has seen my latest video, there is an eyebrow raise….and every time I post something on PornHub I think about what each of these people individually think of me or what they would think of the video.’

Meanwhile, another actress reveals she was blamed for the ‘breakdown of the family’, after her husband’s uncle discovered a clip online.

She said: ‘I’m not a pornstar but I do online sexwork and my husbands uncle came across my telegram and found my sexwork Twitter and all my clip sites.

‘And so instead of going directly to my husband, he proceeds to talk to my husband’s mom (my MIL) about everything while she’s grieving the death of her father.

‘He also proceeds to tell the rest of the family about my sexwork life – they’re Persian so this did not go well.’

And finally, one woman recalled how her adoptive family disowned her, leaving her in the snow on Christmas Day after she told them about her profession.

She explained: ‘I didn’t tell my friends and family at the very very start because I was 19 and honestly, it’s not like I thought things through super hard.

‘Moved to London, went by my stage name to everyone new I met, pretty much just lived the persona for a few years.

‘After about maybe a year and a half realised it didn’t really matter, told my friends and family. Most of my friends already knew, didn’t bother them at all. Had a few questions like ‘have you done x’ or ‘what is y like’ or ‘have you slept with z pornstar’.’

Revealing that her biological family accepted her choice, she continued: ‘I  told my biological family. Mum wasn’t super surprised, apparently one of our nosy neighbour’s had shown her a video (super creepy thing to do imo, could have just told her than show the actual video) and my little sis and her dad were just pretty chilled.

‘Once I told them more about what it involved they were actually impressed. To explain this, I never worked for studios, just made my own content from day 1 and actually only ever filmed with one guy so in terms of safety etc I pretty much did everything right.’

She then added: ‘Feeling pretty confident about the whole situation and like a weight I didn’t know I was carrying was lifted, I went to see my foster family around Christmas time and did not get such a good reaction.

‘They let me stay the night, kicked me out in the morning. Because it was around Christmas time, sat outside in the snow for like 40 minutes waiting for a ride.’

Admitting she was hurt, she concluded:  ‘They haven’t spoken to me since, which hurts but I get it. They’re from a very high-moral ground christian family. Some of the things we argued about before was they believe porn promotes sex trafficking and domestic abuse. Which is funny because I retired after actually using what little influence i had to try and stop a sex trafficking organisation in Europe.’
