  • ‘Mason Hall Run Hide Fight’ the alert at 4.55pm warned students
  • Police are on the scene working to establish the credibility of the report 
  • Officials said at 5.32pm that there did not appear to be an active threat 

A possible active shooter has been reported on the University of Michigan campus.

‘UM Emergency Alert – Mason Hall Run Hide Fight’ the university in Ann Arbor, Michigan said in a flash bulletin to students at 4.55pm.

Officials said in an alert at 5.32pm that there does not appear to be an active threat, but warned the community to stay clear of the area as police work the scene.

Emergency radio traffic indicated that a group of students told police that they had been popping balloons, but that has not been confirmed as the source of the reports of shots fired.

Emergency radio traffic indicated that callers reported hearing shots fired.

There were no initial reports of anyone seeing a shooter.  

The university said at 5.19pm that the reports of a shooter were still unconfirmed.

‘Unconfirmed reports of active shooter, Officers are in the area checking. Stay away from the area of Mason Hall,’ the university said in an alert.
