Sydney commuters have been left stranded after a power surge stopped several trains and plunged stations into darkness.

The power outage brought trains at Central Station to a halt just before 11am, causing massive delays.

‘There are delays continuing across the network due to urgent power supply repairs at Central earlier,’ NSW Transport said on Twitter.

‘Delays are ranging from 5 to 40mins. We are working hard to get services back on time ASAP.’

Anyone coming into or leaving the city’s inner city has been told to allow extra time.
