Speaking to camera, Alex explained: ‘I thought I should probably start thinking about a hospital bag. Left it a bit late. I just cannot remember what’s supposed to go in, even though this is my third.

The presenter had already selected comfy pyjamas, blankets, dummies, toiletries including ‘Spritz for bitz’, flip flops, nursing bras and baby grows to come with her for the birth.

She revealed that she sentimentally held onto the blankets – one gifted to her by Gabby Logan – as she used them to bring her two sons home from hospital.

Alex pointed out that the white baby grows were in size ‘tiny baby’ and explained it’s because they know that ‘she is gonna be quite small.’

On Wednesday, Alex shared a shot of herself having a manicure and pedicure, which she captioned: ‘Pre birth prep.’

The hospital prep comes after Alex shared a snap of herself cuddled up to one of her sons, telling her Instagram followers: ‘Grabbing all the cuddles that I can. This little one has no idea how much his world is about to change.’

Alex and Charlie already have two sons – Edward, four and Kit, two – but it wasn’t clear who she was snuggling up to ahead of the new arrival.

However due to the reference of ‘little one’ in her caption, it could be suggested that Alex was cuddling up to her youngest, Kit.

The doting mum looked radiant as she rested peacefully on top of her son’s head in a stylish khaki shirt and elsewhere shared a stunning selfie showcasing her large baby bump in a floral blue midi dress.

‘Not much room left in there, the presenter told her followers as she cradled her bump while beaming for a mirror selfie in her bathroom.

The star announced on The One Show back in March that she is expecting her third child – a little girl.

In an exclusive chat with MailOnline, The One Show presenter admitted she didn’t realise she was expecting and blamed her symptoms on trying out veganism.

‘I just felt really tired but, of course, in hindsight I was pregnant. I thought it was the veganism making me drained of energy but it wasn’t,’ Alex said.

Despite being pregnant before, Alex said she was completely oblivious to the signs she was expecting and instead thought it was down to trying a meat and dairy-free diet.

The presenter continued: ‘This is ridiculous in a third pregnancy, but I didn’t realise the clues were there because I honestly blamed everything on the veganism. I was so tired and hungry all the time and I thought it was that.

'Coming soon!': Alex admitted she and Charlie were 'ecstatic' to discover that they were expecting a daughter

‘But I said to my husband that I think we need to do a test. And he said: “What? What?” – anyway, we did a test.’

Alex admitted she and Charlie were ‘ecstatic’ to discover they were expecting a daughter, but acknowledged having three young children will, no doubt, be ‘hellish’ at times.

She said of her unexpected pregnancy: ‘It was a funny thing because we hadn’t necessarily planned on a third because we thought… We were so grateful to have the two boys and we just thought: “There you are”.

‘So, it was a huge surprise. And when we also realised that it was a girl, we were just ecstatic. Because I don’t know, it wasn’t something that we ever expected, but actually three feels great and nice.

‘And it’ll be hellish at times, I’m sure, because we’ll have three under four and a half, so it’ll be quite demanding. We just feel super lucky, super lucky that it’s happened.’

Grateful: 'I'm sure, because we'll have three under four and a half, so it'll be quite demanding. We just feel super lucky, super lucky that it's happened,' the presenter said
