Pregnant woman, 21, trolled online since Fortnite addict boyfriend’s domestic assault arrest

The pregnant girlfriend of a gaming addict charged with bashing her has been viciously trolled online since his arrest.

Grace Campbell, 21, has lived in fear since Luke James Munday, 26, was charged with assault after his Fortnite livestream allegedly showed him attacking her.

The incident escalated from her demanding he end an all-day gaming binge in their home in Oran Park, western Sydney, on Sunday.

Grace Campbell, 21, (left) described how Luke James Munday, 26, the mop-haired IT nerd she had dated since she was just 16, turned into an ‘angry person’ due to his addiction to Fortnite

Ms Campbell claimed her boyfriend of five years often reacted angrily to being asked to leave his computer desk – even by his young children.

Earlier video from the IT worker’s livestream showed him verbally abusing his three-year-old daughter when she tried to get his attention.

The small girl could be heard saying ‘da-da’ twice before Munday responded with ‘shut up c**t, don’t f**king give me that attitude’.

Ms Campbell said as Munday’s addiction to the popular game worsened, he increasingly shunned his family to spend more time online with strangers.

‘He wasn’t spending enough time with the kids and it was a struggle every day to get him to leave the computer for anything,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

The young mother, who is 20 months pregnant with their third child, said she was subjected to torrents of online abuse from Munday’s fans since his arrest.

They included death threats, crude language, messages blaming her for the alleged assault, and criticism of her parenting.

‘They even said I was a bad mother and should lose my kids,’ she said.

Every social media thread discussing the case has at least several comments abusing Ms Campbell personally.

Many blamed her for the incident, defended Munday’s actions, and said she deserved the alleged assault for nagging him to stop playing.

‘She’s a stupid b***h. Provoked him. Then yells everybody can you hear him bashing me… he bashes a pregnant woman…. stupid stupid b***h,’ one wrote.

‘She deserves to loose (sic) her children. She sounds like a jealous idiot who’s only having kids to keep this looser (sic) anyway.’

Another wrote: ‘What a bulls**t set-up all of this is. His partner who initiated the violence should be charged.’

‘When someone says wait I will be off soon she needs to understand and not to throw things at him,’ a third wrote.

‘I don’t support this c**t but i don’t even support that b***h. If my wife do that to me I swear to god I would smash her head with PC monitor.’

Ms Campbell appeared to throw a cardboard box and other objects at Munday as she demanded he stop playing, before he got up and confronted her.

He then allegedly slapped her in front of their children as Ms Campbell screamed and then called him a ‘woman basher’.

‘I hope all of you people know that I’m pregnant and he just bashed me,’ she said.

The couple continued their screaming match and Munday seconds later could be heard telling her to ‘f**k off… leave me alone for 10 f**king minutes’.

Ms Campbell said it wasn’t always like this, describing how the mop-haired IT nerd she had dated since she was just 16 turned into an ‘angry person’ who would play all night.

Ms Campbell said Munday never laid a hand on her before Sunday and though she was disgusted by the alleged assault it had been 'blown out of proportion'

Ms Campbell says instead of playing with his adorable children, he spent six to eight hours a day letting fans watch him play the game, his popularity only fuelling his addiction.

‘Some days he would finish work, play Fortnite until he fell asleep in his chair, then get up and do it all again,’ she said.

Ms Campbell said the pair had dated for five years, and everything was fine until he got addicted to Fortnite.

She said he played the game for much of their relationship, but the addiction only gripped him in the past year.

‘He got famous and started playing six to eight hours a day for his fans,’ she said.

‘As he got more addicted he changed, he became an angry person.’

Munday faced Camden Local Court on Thursday where his assault charge and an AVO were adjourned until January 10.

Munday’s lawyer Steven Mercael applied in court to remove a bail condition that Munday not approach his partner or the family home.

The court heard Ms Campbell wrote a letter asking that he be allowed to return home, according to Mr Mercael.

However, Ms Campbell said this was a misinterpretation as she only wanted to be able to contact him by phone to sort out money issues.

In fact, she said the relationship was over and she no longer thinks he is fit to be the father of their children.

‘After this, I’ve had enough. I don’t want him near me or the children,’ she said.

But then Ms Campbell said she would consider taking him back if he took anger management classes and showed he could be a good father and partner.

‘I’ll give him another change for our kids, but only if he makes the effort and shows real improvement,’ she said.

‘He also needs to address his addiction to the game.’

Ms Campbell’s mother was less forgiving, saying she never wanted her ‘baby’ daughter to have anything to do with Munday again.

‘I despise him for what he’s done to my daughter. I will never forgive him and I don’t trust him,’ she said.

‘I don’t care how sorry he is, I’ve heard it all before and I’m too old to fall for it.

‘She’s a great mum, a loving mum and she’s distraught over what this is doing to the kids.’

Ms Campbell’s mother expressed concern that if Munday lost his job at Telstra, from which he earned $1,070 a week, no one would be able to support the children.

Munday was earlier this week suspended from his IT role while the criminal case played out in court.

Unable to return to the family home, Munday hurried to his grandparents’ house in Narellan Vale in Sydney’s south-west after wading through a thick media scrum outside court without making comment.

He stayed holed up in the house adorned with Christmas decorations and dozens of photos of him growing up, refusing to speak with reporters.

Munday’s grandmother said the sudden circus of his case was taking a toll on her and her husband, both of whom are in ill health.

‘He wanted a bed so we gave him a bed, that’s it. He’s our grandson, what can we do?’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘He’s a good boy, he just made a mistake. He wants to see his kids and come home.’

The elderly woman said Munday had a difficult upbringing and was orphaned at a young age.

He ‘never knew his father’ and his mother died about 20 years ago, leaving his grandparents to raise him, she added.

Wearing a pale white shirt and grey trousers, with no tie or belt, Munday fronted court on Thursday morning, charged with domestic common assault.

Magistrate Ian Cheetham granted a request from his lawyer for a four-week adjournment so the father can seek ‘adequate legal advice’.

‘There’s a lot of a attention on this case, my client, and the alleged victim,’ Steven Mercael told the court.

Police prosecutors didn’t object to the adjournment application, they did protest when Mr Mercael applied to remove the bail condition.

The magistrate said he wouldn’t deal with it on Thursday and also adjourned the matter to January 10.

Mr Mercael successfully petitioned for his client to be excused from that mention so he could dodge the public eye.

Munday earlier insisted the alleged assault was a one-off, as Ms Campbell said, and that the livestream didn’t tell the full story.

‘You’re all judging the video, you don’t see what happens, you haven’t read the police report, you don’t actually know what happened off camera,’ Munday told The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday.

On Sunday night, as Munday’s game was broadcast live on the Twitch e-sports video stream, the woman could be heard asking him to stop playing the online game.

In response to her request, Munday, who had been the poster boy for tech giant Cisco said: ‘Can you not? I said I’ll be out soon’.

‘No computer, I’m sick of this s**t,’ she responded.

Children could be heard crying in the background of the video as the pair continued to argue.

Eventually, Munday allegedly snapped again, screaming: ‘F*** off you dog, you don’t pay the bills.’

Munday was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with assault at 11.30pm on Sunday, as the stream of his alleged assault went viral on Twitter.

Munday’s alleged attack comes after one year after he spoke of his desire to create financial security for his family after his father walked out on him as a toddler.

‘When my partner fell pregnant with our first child, a lot changes and your responsibilities go through the roof,’ he said.

‘I had that philosophy I wouldn’t let that happen to my own kids.’

The budding IT genius was the top-ranking Australian at last years’ Cisco Networking Academy NetRiders Competition, leading him to being offered a job with Telstra.

But in the wake of charges, the telecommunications giant confirmed they had suspended Munday while police carry out their investigation.

In a statement, Telstra General Media Manager Steve Carey condemned the alleged domestic violence attack.

‘This behaviour goes against what we stand for as an organisation and the work we have done to assist women impacted by domestic violence,’ Mr Carey said.

‘We have suspended Luke’s employment pending a full investigation and will co-operate with any police investigation.

‘Domestic violence has no place in our community. It is totally unacceptable and needs to be eradicated.’
