A pregnant woman has been shot dead in Georgia while she was holding her three-year-old son’s hand.
Auriel Callaway was four months pregnant when she was struck by a stray bullet outside the Clarke Garden Apartments in Athens on Monday night.
The 24-year-old and her unborn fetus did not survive the shooting.
Her three-year-old son was unharmed and is being cared for by relatives.
The shooter remains on the loose.

Callaway was walking with her son when a group of children nearby started fighting.
Several adults got involved in the fight before gunfire erupted, witnesses told Channel 2 Action News.
Callaway’s relatives said she started running with her son back to their apartment when the fight broke out.
She was hit by a stray bullet and collapsed just outside her apartment.

Callaway died soon after in hospital.

Authorities say a pregnant woman was shot dead while walking with her toddler son in Athens.
Athens-Clarke County officers were called to the scene at 9:37 p.m. following a report of a gunshot.
Athens-Clarke County police Deputy Chief Jerry Saulters said Callaway’s little boy was not hurt in the incident.
He is now being cared for by relatives.
Authorities remained on the scene early Tuesday going door-to-door for any clues.
Eight people were initially taken into for questioning but they have all since been released.
