Premier League ace Sam McQueen fined for speeding

The Southampton full-back was caught by a speed camera travelling 56mph in a 30mph zone in his £40,000 black Range Rover Evoque

Premier League ace Sam McQueen has had six points slapped on his driving licence after he was caught doing nearly double the speed limit on a 30mph road.

The Southampton full-back was caught by a speed camera travelling 56mph in a 30mph zone in his £40,000 black Range Rover Evoque.

McQueen, 23, was driving on the A336 between his home in Ringwood and Southampton’s training ground in Marchwood, both Hampshire.

Aldershot Magistrates’ Court, Hampshire, heard the Saints star was flashed by the camera on August 10 last year, two days before the start of the Premier League season.

McQueen, who joined Saints as an eight-year-old, came off the bench two days later as his side drew 0-0 with Swansea in their opening fixture.

The 23-year-old, who did not appear at court, admitted one count of speeding.

Magistrates handed him six penalty points, fined him £750 and ordered him to pay £85 costs as well as a £75 victim surcharge.

The Saints star, who has played six times this season, broke into the first team last season and made his first full debut against Inter Milan in the Europa League in October 2016.

He also has one international cap, having started at left-back in a 4-0 win for England under-21s against Denmark in March last year.

Struggling Southampton currently sit in the relegation zone having lost 11 matches, drawn 11 and won only five.
