Prima ballerina Misty Copeland, 39, reveals she secretly welcomed her first child THREE MONTHS ago

Famed ballerina Misty Copeland has revealed that she and her husband Olu Evans secretly welcomed their first child together — a baby boy named Jackson — three months ago.

The 39-year-old, who was the first African-American woman to be named principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, shared the happy news with People, saying she is ‘on maternity leave right now.’

‘I have a three-month-old,’ Copeland said. ‘But I will be back on the stage in 2023, hopefully, in the fall.’

The new mom added that she and her lawyer husband are getting ready to take their baby boy on his first big trip ahead of their six-year wedding anniversary.

‘We just got Jackson’s passport a couple days ago,’ she shared. ‘So we’re on our way to Corsica this summer in France.’

Copeland and Evans tied the knot at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach, California on July 31, 2016, after 10 years together.

The dancer didn’t share any details about her pregnancy, which she kept firmly under wraps.

Copeland explained to People that she is ‘really open’ about her career, but she tends to keep her personal life private — and she doesn’t want her son in the spotlight.

‘Definitely with my son, I wouldn’t have him probably be on camera for anything,’ she told the outlet.

Copeland recounted her journey to becoming ABT’s first African-American principal ballerina in its 75-year history in her 2014 memoir ‘Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina’ and her 2015 documentary ‘A Ballerina’s Tale.’

In September 2020, she gave a behind-the-scenes tour of her $3.125 million New York City apartment in a video for Architectural Digest.

She showed off a stunning art collection by black artists, her ‘serene’ master bedroom, and a large walk-in closet that was inspired in part by Mariah Carey.

Copeland and Evans purchased the apartment in 2018, but they didn’t move in until a few years later.

‘It’s the first home that we’ve owned together, so it’s really nice to be able to share our interests and love and bring it into our home,’ she said in the video.

This past November, she published ‘Black Ballerinas: My Journey to Our Legacy,’ a non-fiction book for children that celebrates the dancers of color who have influenced her.

‘I’ll definitely be coming to them for some parenting advice,’ she told People of her business partners. ‘This is still new for me.’

Copeland noted that balancing her busy career with her home life is ‘never easy,’ but she has a great support system.

‘My husband is incredible and he’s an amazing dad. He’s been there for me throughout my entire career to help me to be able to balance those things,’ she said.

‘But you have to make sacrifices. I’m not at big events every night and out partying and going to dinners,’ she added. ‘I have to make sacrifices to be able to do all the things that I want to do.’
