A notorious Spanish child murderer worked as a teaching assistant in a British primary school for ten months, it has shockingly emerged.

Iria Suárez González, 35, and a friend sliced the throat of a teenage schoolgirl and stabbed her 32 times in 2000.

But despite her horrific crime, the cold-blooded killer was hired by West Oxford Primary School after exploiting a legal loophole meaning she did not have to reveal her dark past.

Under Spanish law, any conviction committed by a minor is wiped from their record after 10 years.

This allowed González, who knifed her victim to death when she was 16, to apply to the British school in 2016 with a clean slate.

From September that year to July 2017, the convicted child killer worked in the classrooms with the primary pupils and teachers who knew nothing of her evil history.

According to media reports from the time of her atrocity, González and her accomplice stabbed the young victim to discover ‘what it would feel like to kill someone’.

This past only came to light after an anonymous complaint was made to Crimestoppers, and the council was alerted in October 2017.

She was arrested and brought before Oxford Crown Court in February, facing one count of fraud by false representation for allegedly not disclosing the murder as a previous conviction in her initial job application to the school.

Unlike in Spain, UK law requires felons to disclose their criminal background, but the case was dropped by the CPS due to a lack of evidence.

A CPS spokesman said: ‘We keep all cases under continuous review so we can consider any new information that comes to light.

‘In this instance, it emerged Ms Suarez-Gonzalez’s conviction was spent which resulted in the charges being dropped.’

Oxford County Council – which oversees the school – said the hiring of staff was the responsibility of the school.

A spokesman said: ‘Recruitment is not the responsibility of the council, it is the responsibility of the individual school.

‘The school had followed safer recruitment processes in terms of the recruitment of this individual.

‘There is a clear recruitment process in place for schools to follow in line with safer recruitment procedures.

‘The school are in liaison with the local authority to continue to support students through the curriculum around feeling safe and knowing they have people that they can talk to in school if they need to.

‘We would stress this charge was not in any way related to any children at the school and only came to light after the staff member had left the school.’

West Oxford Primary School has been approached for comment.
