Prince Charles meets healthcare workers in Devon and Cornwall

Prince Charles appeared to crack out the jokes today as he met with hardworking healthcare staff and locals on day two of a three day trip to Cornwall.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have been in high spirits while visiting the county to meet with key workers, including those at St Austell’s GP surgery, who they thanked for their efforts during the pandemic this afternoon.

Prince Charles, 71, delivered a speech recognising the hard work of the staff during the covid-19 outbreak before the royal couple stopped to have a socially distanced chat with many of the workers individually.

A jolly looking Prince Charles threw his hands into the air as he appeared to be rather tickled by something while joking with the medical staff.

Neither workers or the royal couple were wearing masks during the encounter. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall tour Devon and Cornwall annually.

Camilla kept her look classic in a white pleated shirt dress, camel coloured heels and an impeccably blown out bob, while Prince Charles stuck to his favourite cream suit.

Later in the afternoon the couple were shown around Treverbyn Community Hall in Saint Austell, where they met with local volunteers and members of the Cornwall Community Foundation.

Again Charles was seen laughing and joking as he tucked into a spread of food put on by the local community in the gardens of the hall.

Meeting with the county’s air ambulance crew yesterday Camilla, 73, was left in the lurch after the paramedics were forced to cut their meeting short to dash away to an emergency.

The naming ceremony for the new £7.5million chopper for Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust was briefly interrupted by an alarm sounding alerting paramedics to an emergency call-out, with the Duchess saying she was keeping her ‘fingers crossed’ for the injured patient.

During the visit to Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust’s base in Newquay, two paramedics, who lined-up to show Camilla their top-of-the range chopper, made their apologies and took to the skies.

Camilla said: ‘Oh you have to go, of course. Not in this one? This always happens.’

The call-out was a patient 20-miles away in Falmouth who had suffered head injuries and a seizure.

On hearing the news the unruffled duchess added: ‘Fingers crossed.’
