  • Royal Sussex Instagram account shared an inspirational quote by Dalai Lama
  • The centre message focused on compassion being the ‘key’ to a ‘happier’ world
  • It comes after Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 34, faced recent backlash

Meghan Markle has shared an inspirational quote about compassion by the Dalai Lama – just weeks after recent controversies.

In a post shared by the Sussex Royal Instagram account, the quote reads: ‘I believe that at every level of society – familial, tribal, national and international – the key to a happier and more successful world is the growth of compassion.’

The message, which was presented on a navy blue background with the couple’s joint monogram, comes shortly after the Duchess, 38, and husband Prince Harry, 34, were embroiled in a hypocrisy row after taking four private jets in just 11 days.

They flew to Ibiza by private jet on August 6 for a six-night break for Meghan’s 38th birthday, and days later flew to Nice on a £15million Cessna plane described as the ‘pinnacle of luxury’.

The couple visited the £15million palatial home of Castel Mont-Alban, owned by Sir Elton John, 72, and his husband David Furnish.

Sir Elton revealed he paid for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to fly to and from his Nice mansion by private jet for a holiday ‘inside the safety and tranquillity of our home’.

He claimed he ensured Prince Harry and Meghan’s flights to and from the French Riviera were carbon neutral by making the ‘appropriate contribution’ to a carbon footprint fund.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced recent criticism after taking four private jets in just 11 days – despite preaching about the environment

It reads: ‘Through this approach he has received over 150 awards, honorary doctorates, and prizes in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion.’

And many of the couple’s social media followers praised the refreshing quote for being ‘beautiful’ and ‘100% true.’

Another penned: ‘So true it should be with compassion that we lead our lives every day,’ while a further agreed: ‘What we need most in this world is love, compassion and peace! Blessings to you and family.’

The quote appeared to go down better with the public than last month’s ‘hypocritical’ message, which urged people to ‘do your little bit of good’.

In that Instagram post, they shared a quote from Archbishop Desmond Tutu which read: ‘Do YOUR little bit of GOOD where YOU ARE; it’s THOSE LITTLE BITS of good put TOGETHER that OVERWHELM the WORLD.’

Within five minutes of the post going live, a disgruntled follower commented: ‘How about you do your little bit of good and stop taking flights on private jets?’

It didn’t take long for others to pile in on the debate, with one writing: ‘How about less gas guzzling air travel!!!’

The post received an abundance of positive comments from social media followers who praised the couple for sharing the quote
