Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding day Jaguar E-Type on sale

They turned heads on their wedding day by driving a unique, stunning electric version of a classic sports car.

Now you can copy Harry and Meghan, as Jaguar is putting the eco-friendly E-Type into production – but buying one will set you back a king’s ransom as they will go on sale for £350,000.

The Duke of Sussex drove his new bride from Windsor Castle to their reception at nearby Frogmore House in May in a battery-powered E-Type that was then a one-off.

It turned almost as many heads at the royal couple themselves when screened across the world on TV.

The metallic powder blue car created such a stir that now Jaguar Land Rover is to sell the hand-built zero-emissions sports models for around £350,000 each, it announced today, with first deliveries in 2020.

A production version in a bespoke bronze paint finish will make its US debut at a motorsports gathering in California today.

Rather than make a specific number, the company said it will be taking ‘expressions of interest’ from potential buyers and will then build them according to demand.

Both it and the royals’ earlier electric E-Type Zero prototype were engineered and built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Classic Works at Ryton in Warwickshire.

That is near Coventry, where the original E-Type – described by Enzo Ferrari as the ‘the most beautiful car ever made’ – was first built in 1961. Then, it cost from £2,098, a sum that seems modest today.

The royal wedding prototype is now considered priceless and is likely to remain as part of the Jaguar Land Rover heritage fleet.

Tim Hannig, director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, said: ‘We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the Jaguar E-Type Zero.

‘Our aim with it is to future-proof classic car ownership and enjoyment.’
