Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a leaf out of Prince Harry’s book as he posed for selfies during his first appearance at the Invictus Games.

The PM draped himself in a scarf from New Zealand supporters while waiting for Harry to arrive, happily accepting every photo request.

Despite his attire, he sat among a large contingent of friends and family of the Canadian team.

When casually dressed Harry arrived they embraced before settling down to watch the indoor rowing event.

It was the final sport of the 2025 Games in Vancouver before the closing ceremony featuring pop acts and the handover of the Invictus flag to representatives from the next host, the city of Birmingham.

The indoor rowing featured the military veterans in a race against the clock to cover a 100m distance.

The PM and Harry will both give speeches at the closing ceremony held at the Roger’s Arena, home to the city’s Canucks hockey team.

It comes as this is the second time the Invictus Games have been hosted in Canada, following the Games in Toronto in 2017.

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, founded the Invictus Games in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick armed forces personnel and has been to watch a number of the events.

Only yesterday, he did a knee slide and kissed a bald man’s head as he joined in boisterous celebrations for the final between Brazil and Nigeria.

Later, after presenting the gold medal to the victorious Brazil team he joined in a group photo of all the finalists who had gathered with their arms around each other on the court.

With Brazil straight set winners he handed out medals to the team, many of whom were overcome with emotion and burst into tears as they accepted their medals.

One of the players was so overcome with emotion that he buried his head in Harry’s shoulders and wept.

Harry then planted a quick kiss on the bald head of another member of the team as he walked along the presenting line.

The festivities may be a welcome distraction from circumstances at home where US President Donald Trump has said he remains committed to Prince Harry facing a criminal prosecution if found to have lied about his drugs use in his visa application.

Mr Trump said last week he would not deport the Duke of Sussex, claiming he has punishment enough with his ‘terrible’ wife.

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry admitted using cocaine, marijuana and magic mushrooms. If he had admitted that when arriving in the US in 2022, he would have needed a visa waiver after interview.

On Friday he admitted he has therapy to help him cope with listening the stories of injured military veterans taking part in the Invictus Games.

After hearing how a Canadian officer suffered from PTSD from stories of trauma and grief in Afghanistan, the Duke of Sussex said he too would have therapy to cope.
