Prince Harry is ‘far from happy’ because ‘content people want to make amends’, says royal expert

Prince Harry is ‘far from happy’ in the US because people who are content ‘want to make amends’ and ‘don’t create arguments and criticise people’, a royal expert has claimed.

In a podcast last week, the Duke of Sussex, 36, launched yet another stinging attack on the Royal Family, criticising his father Prince Charles’ parenting and describing his life within the Firm as a cross between the film The Truman Show – in which a man discovers he is living in a reality TV programme – and a zoo.

Yesterday Harry hinted he was ready to pour his heart out again about his mother Diana’s death and his relationship with his father in an emotional trailer for a new mental health documentary for Apple, due for release on Friday.

Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, said Harry sounds like a man ‘desperately trying to convince himself he’s found happiness’.

‘I believe that, despite Harry’s insistence that he’s happy, he’s far from it. I don’t think he or Meghan are happy,’ he told Closer magazine.

‘Content people don’t create arguments and criticise people – content people want to make amends.’

Duncan added that he doesn’t believe Harry is in a position to ‘preach’ about how to cope with mental health issues when he is ‘clearly in the very midst’ of his own journey and ‘causing pain to his own family’.

He said he believes the cause of the Duke’s anger and sadness was the trauma which came about from his mother, Princess Diana, dying when he was a child in 1997, and will never be ‘truly happy’ until he works through it.

‘[Harry] has now made the royals and the institution his enemies because of that – he’s on the warpath,’ Duncan told the publication.

‘I think what we see and hear from these interviews is a man who is desperately trying to convince himself that he has found happiness, and he has been through it all and reached the other side – that he’s finally free. I don’t think that’s the case. He and Meghan aren’t happy or free. I don’t think his move to LA has solved anything.’

Duncan previously said he believes Harry is ‘regretful’ about his explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which he and Meghan accused the royals of institutional racism and alleged the Duchess received no support when she was suicidal while pregnant with Archie.

Harry – who fled British royal life to live in luxury in California last year and has since made a fortune through American companies like Netflix and Spotify while living in California – provoked ire in the US with comments he made about the First Amendment on the Dax Shepard podcast Armchair Expert on Thursday.

‘I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers,’ Harry told the podcast.

‘I don’t want to start going down the First Amendment route because that’s a huge subject and one which I don’t understand because I’ve only been here a short time, but you can find a loophole in anything. You can capitalise or exploit what’s not said rather than uphold what is said.’

Many Americans who’d embraced him and reacted sympathetically to his comments on Oprah were angered by the remarks, as were Brits.

Speaking to Closer, Duncan said he hopes it doesn’t all end in disaster for Harry, but he does appear to be burning bridges ‘left, right and centre’.

A royal source told MailOnline columnist Dan Wootton that insiders fear Harry’s renewed criticism of Charles has put his upcoming reunion with ‘horrified’ Prince William in July to honour their mother at risk.

‘Prince William is, of course, saddened by the recent developments because of the way Prince Harry is putting such deeply personal pain into the public domain, invading all the family’s privacy,’ the insider told Wootton.

Another source claimed Harry’s revelations on the podcast go ‘very much against the strategy he agreed with William following the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death’.

‘That’s going to increase tensions between William and Harry, which sadly are already high.’

The Mail on Sunday revealed at the weekend how some royal aides want the Sussexes stripped of their royal titles.
