Prince Harry plays Grime on Radio 4’s Today programme

Prince Harry started his guest editing session on Radio 4 Today programme by playing a Grime song by a charity

Prince Harry started his guest editing session of Radio 4’s Today programme by playing a Grime song.

The 33-year-old has taken the helm of the popular BBC radio show and will be the guest editor from 6am to 9am this morning.

And he began the show by playing a song produced by a Nottingham charity he has worked with in the past.

He said the charity works with young people on preventing violence.

The station’s flagship news show includes an interview by the prince of former US President Barack Obama, who shares his memories of the day he left office and his hopes for his post-presidential life.

The engagement comes after Harry stepped out with new fiancee Meghan Markle as the royals gathered in Sandringham for Christmas.

Kensington Palace tweeted today: Prince Harry is guest editing the @BBCr4today programme this morning.

‘The three hour programme will cover a wide range of topics HRH is passionate about.

‘These topics will include technology, youth violence, the Armed Forces, mental health, the future of the Commonwealth, conservation and the environment.’

The palace said the interview with Mr Obama was recorded in Toronto in September during the Invictus Games and will be broadcast on December 27.

The programme previously tweeted a teaser video showing Harry and Mr Obama warming up ahead of the chat, with the former president joking: ‘Do I need a British accent?’

Harry told his interviewee that if he used long pauses between answers he would probably get ‘the face’.

When Harry showed him what he meant, Mr Obama said: ‘I don’t want to see that face.’

Twiddling a pen, Harry tells Mr Obama: ‘You’re excited about this, I’m nervous about this, that’s what’s quite funny.’

Mr Obama replies: ‘I’ll interview you if you want.’

But Harry was not keen and said: ‘No, no, let’s keep it this way.’

The palace said the conversation features Mr Obama talking about his plans to focus on cultivating the next generation of leadership through the Obama Foundation.

Harry, who was recently at the inaugural summit of the Obama Foundation in Chicago, has forged a strong bond with the Obamas, through his work with servicemen and his trips to America.

At this year’s Invictus Games, Mr Obama reportedly quizzed Harry on his romance with Meghan Markle as they watched the wheelchair basketball.

The palace said the full interview will be made available as a podcast. Today finishes at 9am this morning.
