Prince Harry reveals the ‘best gift’ he’s ever received as he prepares to celebrate his 40th birthday at home in California with ‘close friends’

Prince Harry today revealed that his children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are the ‘best gift’ he has ever received, as he prepares to celebrate his 40th birthday.

Ahead of the milestone this Sunday, the Duke of Sussex emailed People magazine to reveal the joy he receives from his son and daughter with wife Meghan Markle.

Harry wrote in the email: ‘The best gift I’ve ever been given is, without a doubt, my kids. I enjoy watching them grow every single day, and I love being their dad.’

People – which is known to be close to the Sussexes – also reported that Harry was now ‘focused on enjoying life’ with his family ‘after years of self-reflection’.

In addition, the publication cited his ongoing work through Archewell Foundation projects and the upcoming Netflix documentary Polo, due out in December.

Harry is set to mark his 40th birthday with Meghan, Archie and Lilibet in a low-key celebration at their £11million mansion in Montecito, California.

People said this would be ‘followed by a gathering with close friends internationally’, while Hello! reported he would head on a ‘weekend getaway’ in the mountains with his closest friends.

Harry is also to set to embark on a packed solo trip to New York City later this month to ‘advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives’, his team said.

The visit is set to take place during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week on September 23 to 27 and Climate Week between September 22 and 29.

The Duke and Duchess are also planning a third ‘quasi-royal tour’ before the end of this year with a return to Africa under consideration, according to Hello!.

Harry and Meghan received a mostly positive reception on their first two trips this year to Nigeria in May and then Colombia last month.

The couple are said to have been buoyed by the success of the two tours and are now planning a further overseas trip for some point later this year.

Likely destinations are believed to include Lesotho and Botswana, where Harry’s charity Sentebale operates. The Duke last visited the countries in 2019.

Harry and Meghan stepped down from the working monarchy in 2020 and no longer travel at the request of the UK Government on official overseas royal visits, when travel costs would have usually been met by the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant.

Harry lost a High Court challenge against the Home Office in February over a decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits the UK, but he has been given the green light to appeal.
