Prince William and Kate cheat during Christmas roulade with Mary Berry

Kate Middleton and Prince William enjoyed a singsong with Beauty and the Beast star Luke Evans on the Christmas TV special with Mary Berry.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge can be seen looking on as the actor – who sang at the Royal Variety Performance last week – performs Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on A Berry Royal Christmas, which airs tonight at 8.30pm.

The royal couple have already shared ‘a few of their favourite moments’ on their Instagram page with fans.

In one snap, Kate and William are happily chatting away to Mary Berry next to an ornate Christmas tree, while in another Kate is all-smiles as she rolls some dough.

Also in the hotly anticipated show tonight, Prince William enlisted the help of former Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain to help him roll up a roulade while Mary was not looking.

Determined not to let her husband beat her, his wife Kate was then caught sprinkling icing on her own cake after their set time was up.

Before the bake-off, William claimed he had ‘made hundreds of roulades, loads’, adding: I’m going to write a book about roulades and it’ll be a bestseller.’

He later admitted it was his first time making the dish.

Judging the bake off diplomatically, Mary told the pair: ‘It’s a draw. I don’t want to quarrel with either of you. Well done for being so sporting – I know you’re both very competitive.’

Also in the show, host Mary Berry puts together a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail, while visiting The Brink, the UK’s first dry bar in Liverpool.

She asks the Duchess of Cambridge to take the drinks over to the guests.

Kate says: ‘Reminds me of my university days when I did a bit of waitressing.’ ‘Were you good?’ enquires Mary.

The Duchess of Cambridge bursts into laughter and says: ‘No, I was terrible!’

And, in the hour long special, William will also visit homeless resource centre, the Passage.

Speaking in scenes that will be aired as part of Mary Berry’s festive show, William also said he and the Duchess of Cambridge made an effort to teach Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one, about homelessness.

Kate Middleton also revealed Prince William tried to woo her with his cooking skills while they were at university together.

She also admitted one of her youngest son’s first words was ‘Mary’ because the royal household is stocked with Mary Berry’s cook books and said one of the last things she cooked with her children was pizzas using Mary’s own dough recipe.

Mary asked her: ‘Did it work? Did they enjoy it?’

The Duchess told her it was a resounding success.

Mary, 84, takes to the kitchen with Kate and William, 37, in order to prepare a series of festive treats for 150 charity staff who are working over Christmas.

During a visit to The Passage, a homelessness charity based in London, which the duke supports as royal patron, William made cups of tea with former Great British Bake Off judge Berry.

William told her about visiting the project for the first time as a boy.

Asked whether he educated his children about such issues, he said: ‘Absolutely, and on the school run – I know it sounds a little bit contrite – but on the school run already, bear in mind six and four, whenever we see someone who is sleeping rough on the street I talk about it and I point it out and I explain.

A Berry Royal Christmas also sees TV star Berry show Kate how to decorate cakes and mix a non-alcoholic cranberry juice cocktail.

Kate served the drink at The Brink, a dry bar set up by the charity Action on Addiction in Liverpool, of which she is patron.

Berry and the duke know each other through their support of Child Bereavement UK, and the show came about as the celebrity cook wanted to learn more about the duke and duchess’s charities, particularly Kate’s work supporting the early years development of children.

In the hour-long programme, she prepares some of her favourite Christmas recipes to inspire the television audience, and at the end of the show is joined by special guests, including Nadiya Hussain, as she makes festive food for charity workers.
