Princess Anne arrives back in Sydney from Papua New Guinea on a private jet

Princess Anne had a brief stopover in Sydney on Wednesday after flying in from Papua New Guinea on a private jet.

The 71-year-old royal was spotted stepping off the plane at Sydney Airport accompanied by a small group of staff members.

The down-to-earth princess carried her own luggage as she disembarked the flight, holding two carry-on bags and a small black handbag.

She looked smart in a pair of cream khaki pants, which she paired with a white button-up shirt and navy blue blazer.

The senior royal also wore a pair of black loafers, while her brunette hair was fastened in her trademark bun.

Anne briefly chatted with airline staff as she stepped off the plane, before making her way to a nearby car.

She was then ferried to a connecting flight back to the UK, happily chatting with airport staff as her luggage was loaded out of the car boot. 

To mark the Queen’s historic 70 years on throne, Anne was asked to represent her mother by visiting Sydney and Papua New Guinea. 

The royal took a commercial flight from London to Sydney, and was accompanied by her husband Timothy Laurence and her private secretary Charles Davies.

By 9.30am she was at her first engagement of the day, an audience with the Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley.

She spent the rest of her first day – from 11.30am to 6.30pm – at the Royal Easter Show, visiting different pavilions and attending the opening ceremony.  

Later that evening, she attended a dinner at Sydney Olympic Park, where she was the guest of honour.

The following day, she visited representatives of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service and saw first hand the devastating effects of the recent bushfires and floods.

That afternoon, she visited the Sea Heritage Foundation and finished out the day by conducting an investiture.

This was followed by a garden party with representatives from many of the charities she’s a patron of.

On Monday, Anne undertook military engagements and inspected a guard of honour in Sydney.

She then travelled to Papua New Guinea, where she met the nation’s prime minister, James Marape, and attended a reception with local business leaders and politicians.

Anne also had a dinner with the prime minister and representatives from across the country’s government.

On Tuesday, she had eight official engagements, including a visit to an all-girls boarding school and the country’s first cardiac diagnostic centre.

She also had meetings with village elders in Hanuabada, before undertaking a tour of the Bomana War Cemetery to lay a wreath on behalf of the Queen. 

Her final engagement was another dinner with the country’s prime minister and charity representatives.
