Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring inspired by the Queen

Princess Beatrice’s bespoke engagement ring may have been inspired by the Queen’s own design, an expert has claimed.

Beatrice, 31, announced her engagement to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi yesterday, showing off a 3.5 carat diamond ring by Shaun Leane, estimated to have cost £100,000.

The round-cut diamond is flanked by four baguette-cut diamonds on a platinum band designed by British jeweller Shaun Leane, and bears a striking resemblance to that of the Queen.

The monarch’s ring also features a three carat round-cut diamond and 10 smaller ones set in platinum – taken from a tiara belonging to Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Princess Alice of Battenberg, and crafted by jewellers Philip Antrobus Ltd in 1947.

Both rings feature round cut diamonds of a similar carat weight and are flanked by smaller diamonds sitting on a similarly shaped bands.

Speaking to Femail, Jason D’Heureux, creative director of bespoke jewellers Taylor & Hart said: ‘Like her grandmother, her aunt and cousin-in-law, Princess Beatrice has gone with an all-diamond engagement ring.

‘The centre diamond is also round and and likely possesses very high colour and clarity.’

London Jeweller, Susannah Lovis added: ‘Princess Beatrice’s is a beautiful engagement ring with a round brilliant cut diamond flanked by four baguette-cut diamonds’.

‘It is breath-taking particularly because all you can see is diamonds and the platinum band is hidden. It appears to be around 3.5 carats and would probably have cost in the region of £100,000.’

The ring was crafted in hand in the Shaun Leane Mayfair atelier and is set with excellent cut diamonds of the highest colour and clarity, of which all are GIA certified and ethically sourced.

It is a fusion of Victorian and Art Deco designs and is accompanied by two additional matching bands, in distinctive Shaun Leane style.

The bespoke experience began with a detailed and personal consultation with the groom. Consequently, the design is filled with personal and sentimental signifiers for the couple and unique to them.

Shaun Leane said of the design: ‘I am so honoured Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives.’

He added: ‘The bespoke experience was a beautiful journey from imagining the design with Edoardo to the crafting of the rings.’

‘Being able to incorporate both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice’s characters into the design has resulted in a unique ring that represents their love and lives entwining.’

Princess Beatrice started dating the Italian property developer, who is a father-of-one, in October last year.

Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi said in a statement: ‘We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement.

‘We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to actually be married.

‘We share so many similar interests and values, and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.’
