Princess Eugenie forced to cancel Windsor christening of son August following ‘Covid scare’

Princess Eugenie’s christening for her baby son was ‘cancelled at the last minute due to Covid scare’, it has been claimed.

The ceremony for August, who was born to Eugenie, 31, and Jack Brooksbank, 35, on February 9th, was due to take place on Saturday at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park.

However, celebrations were apparently scrapped after a fellow attendee is said to have either tested positive for the virus or been pinged by the NHS Covid-19 app minutes before meaning the gathering had to be cancelled.

The Queen, 95, is understood to have been among guests due to attend to the ceremony and afterparty for her great-grandson, according to The Mirror.

The christening was to be held at Royal Chapel of All Saints with less than 30 people attending before a reception at Royal Lodge, according to reports.

Others on the guest list are understood to have included proud grandparents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who would be hosting the after party.

Pregnant Princess Beatrice, 32, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 38, who were spotted enjoying a day at Wimbledon earlier this week, were also reported to be attending.

A source said: ‘One guest tested positive or was pinged for Covid contact and therefore no one else was able to gather.

‘As a result, they called off the service and reception party afterwards at Royal Lodge, Prince Andrew’s home.

‘The Queen and Eugenie’s parents Fergie and Prince Andrew had all been due to attend.’

MailOnline has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

August was born at Portland Hospital in London and is currently 12th in line to the throne.

Since his birth, Eugenie, who is based at Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor, has regularly shared updates on her personal Instagram account.

It comes after Kate Middleton was spotted for the first time since having to isolate as she joined Prince William at Wimbledon yesterday.

Kate, who left self-isolation, is the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, presented champion Ashleigh Barty with her trophy alongside president of the All England Club the Duke of Kent as the crowd cheered today.

She was first alerted about her contact’s positive test last Friday – after spending most of the day at Wimbledon with VIPs including Tim Henman and Joe Wicks.

The Duchess of Cambridge was all smiles on centre court in a bright green dress as she watched the women’s final between Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova.

Princess Eugenie’s sister Princess Beatrice was also in attendance at Wimbledon for her first official outing since announcing she’s expecting.

She could be seen lovingly cradling her baby bump as she and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi arrived at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

The mother-to-be, 32, who is expecting her first child with Italian property developer Edoardo, looked radiant in a £340 black and white polka dot dress by Self Portrait, which skimmed her blossoming bump.
