Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and her cousin August Brooksbank ‘love going to the London zoo’, Princess Eugenie has revealed.
Posting a photo of the cousins standing at the penguin pool at the nature enclosure in Regent’s Park, London, Princess Eugenie, who is currently expecting her second child, celebrated Earth Day.
In what is thought to be the first public photo of one-year-old Sienna, she stands next to her cousin August as they press their hands against the glass of the pool.
The daughter of Princess Beatrice, 34, and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 39, has a thick head of strawberry blonde hair.
As she stands at the enclosure, she looks wrapped up in a white teddy fleece jacket with a hood, light blue jeans and fleece-lined boots.
Cousin love! Princess Eugenie posted a sweet snap of Sienna Mapelli Mozzi, one, and her older cousin August Brooksbank, two, at London Zoo to celebrate Earth Day
The tot stands next to her older cousin, August, two, as he also watches the penguins while dressed in a thick jacket, dark jeans and mini Doc Marten boots.
Posting a series of photos to celebrate Earth Day, Princess Eugenie wrote of the snap of the cousins: ‘August and his cousin Sienna love going to the London Zoo. It’s part of the Zoological Society of London, a global wildlife conservation charity that helps to restore habitats and protect wildlife. Every time you visit you are supporting their work.’
In the other photos, Princess Eugenie shows little August enjoying a BBC Earth experience, an immersive screening from the BBC’s Natural History Unit.
Eugenie also posted a photo of August walking through a picturesque woodland landscape with his father Jack and the family dog
Elsewhere, Princess Eugenie posted a photo of herself examining oysters as part of her Earth Day celebratory post
The final photo in the series is a snap of little August walking with his father, Jack Brooksbank and the family Labrador through a picturesque woodland filled with blossoms.
She wrote of the last photo: ‘Because I love them and they love nature.’
Elsewhere Eugenie posted a photo of herself examining oysters as part of her work into coastal conservation.
She wrote: ‘Who knew oysters were so cool… one oyster can clean up to 200L of water a day.
‘Blue Marine Foundation are leading an initiative called Solent Seascape Project which is restoring coastal marine life with a collection of partners making it one of the most ambitious environmental projects in the UK!’
Eugenie’s post comes after she revealed earlier this year that she is teaching little August about the environment.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson said giving birth to her son August in 2021 ‘totally changed’ her outlook on the environment.
She said: ‘My son’s going to be an activist from two years old, which is in a couple of days. Everything is for them, right? Every decision we now make has to be about how August is going to be able to live his life.’
The Duke of York’s daughter said that becoming a mother has made her more concerned for communities vulnerable to climate change in a discussion with Reuters IMPACT and Arctic Humanity at Risk Basecamp.
Eugenie, speaking with Reuters editor-at-large Axel Threlfall and Arctic Humanity founder Gail Whiteman, said: ‘My son’s going to be an activist from two years old, which is in a couple of days. So, he, everything is for them.
‘I talked to Peter Thomson, the UN Special Envoy for Oceans and all he says to me is that I do this for my grandchildren. And that’s the same.
‘Every decision we now make has to be for whether August, what he’s going to be able to look at and do and how he’s going to live his life.
‘But I think also as a mother, you all of a sudden, totally you change, your hormones change, everything changes.
‘Like now I’m scared of flying and things like that and I would never be before.’
And she will no doubt raise her second child, due this summer, to be an environmental activist as well.
