Princess Mary opts for another Japanese-inspired outfit

She’s already tried her hand at diplomatic dressing after donning a kimono-inspired outfit during her whirlwind tour of Japan.

And now Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has gone one step further, opting for a stunning floral coat dress featuring cherry blossoms.

The Australian-born royal looked elegant for the occasion as she attended a business seminar at the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo on Wednesday.

The mother-of-four, 45, and her husband Prince Frederik, 49, were greeted by Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.

Meanwhile, her doting husband Frederik looked dapper in a dark navy suit with a white dress shirt and navy tie, which he wore with black shoes.

The couple are visiting Japan in order to mark 150 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Their latest visit comes after the Princess divided the fashion critics when she stepped out in an elegant kimono-inspired dress at Japan’s National Archives.

Some people took to the Internet, to write comments such as: ‘Diplomatic dressing taken way too literally’.

Later on, the 49-year-old Prince showed off his footballing skills, as he visited the Naruse Oka Elementary School.

During their trip to the National Archives, Princess Mary and Prince Frederik were greeted by Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito.

Together, the three Royals enjoyed a tour of the exhibition, ‘Japan and Denmark: valuable records of the historical relationship’.

The exhibition consists of more than 80 valuable documents and historically preserved materials, all documenting the 150-year diplomatic relations between Denmark and Japan.

For the illustrious occasion, Australian-born Princess Mary was fittingly dressed.

Opting for a wraparound pink silky dress, the mother-of-four completed her Japanese-inspired outfit with nude court shoes, pearl drop earrings and loose hair. Crown Prince Frederik, meanwhile, donned a smart black suit and tie.

Not all of Princess Mary’s followers were pleased with the outfit, however.

Some posted comments such as: ‘I get the “dress-to-flatter-your-host” idea, I just don’t think one should mimic their national dress (kimono, in this case), in too long and at least one size too large, as well…’.

Another wrote: ‘It’s almost kitschy. And the fact that it doesn’t fit well is just so ironic, because Japanese tailoring is usually impeccable.’

Others still thought the Princess was as impeccably dressed as ever, however.

‘Wonderful choice to respect Japanese culture. I am sure this dress was even much better IRL [in real life] than in these pics,’ one person wrote.

‘CP Mary is ever so thoughtful! Her kimono-inspired dress is just wonderful,’ another added.

Later on, the Prince was all smiles, when he took part in a football match at the Naruse Oka Elementary School.
