 A 21-year-old prisoner has died in his Brisbane jail cell after being found unconscious.

The inmate was found by guards in a shared cell at around 11.30 pm on Saturday at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre.

Prison officers administered CPR however he was declared dead when paramedics arrived around midnight, a Queensland Corrective Services spokeswoman said on Sunday.
