Prisoner flees police custody after prison van stops at a service station aptly named ‘On The Run’ for a toilet break

A prisoner who escaped an outside excursion on Monday morning is still on the run.
Shane Gauci, 41, disrobed from his prison garb and ran as the van carrying other inmates stopped at a gas station for a toilet break.
CCTV taken from the aptly titled On The Run petrol station on Gorge Road in Adelaide showed the moment Gauci took off his Hi-Vis vest and fled.
Gauci had been participating in a work program when the van carrying the inmates stopped at the gas station at around 8.30am Monday morning.
‘After consultation with the Department of Corrections, South Australia Police can now state that they are currently searching for low security prisoner Shane Gauci,’ police said.
A nearby worker told Nine News: ‘It’s pretty scary to be honest, if he was wearing hi-vis, he just looks like anyone.’

Gauci is described as Caucasion, 180 cm tall, weighing around 95kg with brown hair.
At the time of escape he was clean shaven.
He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, khaki pants and black boots.
Anyone who sees him is urged not to approach but contact the police assistance line on 131 444.
