Inmates are being treated to McDonald’s and KFC-style meals in a bid to keep prisoners happy.

Lancaster Farms prison is serving up a fast-food inspired menu to inmates, with ‘McFarm Zinger/ Tower Burger’ meals, along with treats such as toad-in-the-hole, chilli hot dogs, meat pies, pasta bakes and curries, according to the Sunday Mirror.

For deserts, inmates are treated to a wide array of delicacies, including cream teas, crumbles, fruit, rice pudding and even ice cream.

A source told the newspaper the prison deliberately names their menus to familiar fast-food shops ‘so the inmates feel like they are still linked to the outside’.

Lancaster Farms prison gives inmates a choice in what food they are served by asking them to tick off what they want on a sheet a paper. Each item is given an icon to show inmates whether the option is spicy, halal, vegetarian or healthy.

The person who provided the menu to the Sunday Mirror condemned the array of choice the criminals were offered behind bars, jokingly adding ‘all that’s missing is the wine list’.

They added: ‘I reckon the lads at Lancaster Farms have a better diet than many honest people in the UK struggling to make ends meet.’

HM Prison Lancaster Farms, a category C prison which holds 549 inmates, has been accredited with having a ‘high standard’ of food by the Independent Monitoring Board report.
