Pro-Trump FBI agents texted each other in delight when he won

Pro-Trump FBI agents texted each other in delight when he was elected saying it was like ‘watching a Super Bowl comeback’ and volunteered to probe Hillary Clinton

  • The Department of Justice Inspector General report showed some instances of FBI officials cheering on President Trump
  • Messages on the day Trump officially won the 2016 election showed one supervisor saying it was like ‘watching a Super Bowl comeback’
  • Trump has long pointed to the messages of FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page as evidence that the FBI was predominantly anti-Trump

Monday’s new Inspector General report on the FBI showcased messages shared between pro-Trump officials too.

On November 9, the day President Trump was declared the winner of the 2016 election, an unnamed supervisor contacted another FBI employee and said he ‘was so elated with the election’ and compared it to ‘watching a Super Bowl comeback.’

When sitting down with the Office of Inspector General, the supervisor said he ‘fully expected Hillary Clinton to walk away with the election. But as the returns [came] in … it was just energizing to me to see … [because] I didn’t want a criminal to be in the White House.’

The Office of Inspector General found some FBI officials who were pro President Trump. Trump has often pointed to FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page’s text messages as evidence that there was widespread anti-Trump sentiment at the FBI

The Justice Department's Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a report Monday that included FBI agents exchanging pro-Trump messages

The Justice Department’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a report Monday that included FBI agents exchanging pro-Trump messages

During that November 9 conversation, the supervisor was talking about some reporting from a confidential source on the Clinton Foundation and offered to the other FBI official ‘if you hear talk of a special prosecutor … [I] will volunteer to work [on] the Clinton Foundation.’

The report also captures a conversation between two agents working with the same source, called a CHS or confidential human source.

The handling agents exclaims, ‘Trump!’ to which the co-case handling agent replies, ‘Hahaha. S*** just got real.’

The handling agent agrees.

‘Yes it did.’

The co-case handling agent responds, ‘I saw a lot of scared MFers on … [my way to work] this morning. Start looking for new jobs fellas. Haha.’

‘LOL,’ the handling agent wrote back.

Trump had long pointed to anti-Trump text messages shared between FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, using those as evidence that there was widespread bias against him at the FBI.

But the new messages show that there were Trump supporters with the FBI too.

The messages were shared as part of a section of the report that describes the FBI’s work with confidential human sources – a number of which had some connection to the Trump orbit.

The source attached to the pro-Trump FBI officials was described, also, as a Trump support. The report pushed back on the narrative that this individual would have been feeding agents anti-Trump dirt.

The supervisor said he was ‘not worried about [the source] trying to provide information or getting dirty information on Trump.’

He said any suggestion this CHS ‘was directed to damage or investigate the Trump Administration is just absurd.’

The IG report, authored by Michael Horowitz, suggests officials leaned too heavily on the Steele dossier, though said familiar targets like Strzok and Page weren’t key to the decision-making process in opening up the 2016 Russia probe.
