Manchester United have booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3)

DAVID DE GEA – 6.5

Produced a strong save to deny Bernat at a crucial point in the game to keep United in it.

VICTOR LINDELOF – 6.5

Steady. Beginning to form a decent partnership with Smalling in defence.

ERIC BAILLY – 4

Out of his depth in a completely unnatural position. Switched off for the first goal.

CHRIS SMALLING – 7.5

Kylian Mbappe’s most difficult opponent of the season but can get nowhere near England squad.

LUKE SHAW – 6.5

Solid performance. Every time I watch him, I feel there is much more to give going forward.

ASHLEY YOUNG – 6.5

A complete passenger for much of the first half but did what Bailly couldn’t in the second.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY – 7

Saw very little of the ball but played an important defensive role in United’s midfield.

FRED – 7

Big night, especially with no Matic and no Pogba. Brought some good energy to the midfield.

ANDREAS PEREIRA – 6.5

Workman-like in midfield but did not do too much to create in possession.

ROMELU LUKAKU – 8

He’s becoming deadly again. On the big night, United’s big man stepped up.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 8

What huge bottle he showed to bury the winning penalty. Absolutely fearless.

SUBSTITUTES

Diogo Dalot 6.5 (for Bailly, 36min)

Tahith Chong (Pereira, 80min)

Mason Greenwood (Young, 87min)

Not used: Romero (GK), Garner, Gomes, Rojo.

MANAGER

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER – 9

What an outstanding victory for Solskjaer on the biggest night of his managerial career. The job is surely his now, if it wasn’t already.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (4-2-3-1)

GIANLUIGI BUFFON – 5

Been one of the greats but is now past his best. Will be disappointed with United’s second goal.

THILO KEHRER – 4

Had a shocker. An awful backpass for United’s opener and struggled to keep Rashford in check.

THIAGO SILVA – 6

A vital player for PSG but was made to look shaky by Lukaku’s strength and pace up front.

PRESNEL KIMPEMBE – 6.5

Strong, good in possession and won more tackles than any other PSG player.

JUAN BERNAT – 7

A constant thorn in United’s side. Destroyed both Young and Bailly in the first half.

MARCO VERRATTI – 6.5

An accomplished player in midfield, with the ball and without. Always looks to start attacks.

MARQUINHOS – 6

Adds a steel to the PSG midfield and helps out the defence when they need him. A vital link.

DANI ALVES – 6.5

Still a top player. Always looking for the killer pass. United allowed him too much space.

JULIAN DRAXLER – 6

Takes up some really clever positions but his quality let him down on the night.

ANGEL DI MARIA – 7

Had freedom of the Parc des Princes. Much better in a PSG shirt than he ever was in a United one.

KYLIAN MBAPPE – 7.5

One of the best players on the planet, with raw pace to burn and incredible imagination.

SUBSTITUTES

Thomas Meunier – 6 (for Kehrer, 70min)

Leandro Paredes – 6 (for Draxler, 70min)

Edinson Cavani (for Alves, 90min)

Not used: Areola (GK), Choupo-Moting, Dagba, Kurzawa.

MANAGER

THOMAS TUCHEL – 5

There was huge pressure on Tuchel’s shoulders for PSG to win this competition and it showed. What a devastating result.
