PSG ‘could make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo should Kylian Mbappe join Real Madrid this summer’ with the Juventus forward facing uncertain future as Andrea Pirlo’s men struggle in Serie A this season

  • Kylian Mbappe has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer
  • The striker hinted last week the negative French media could see him quit PSG
  • Reports in Italy claim PSG could replace Mbappe with Cristiano Ronaldo
  • The Juventus forward faces an uncertain future amid a difficult season in Italy

Paris Saint-Germain could replace Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe with Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to reports in Italy.

French star Mbappe has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish giants this summer, with the player’s complaints about negative media coverage in France only adding fuel to the fire that he could leave PSG.

PSG are trying to keep hold of Mbappe and Brazilian team-mate Neymar at the club and are involved in continual contract discussions with the pair, while the French giants have also been linked with a move for Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

But according to Italian news outlet Tuttosport, PSG could move for Ronaldo should Mbappe quit the French champions in what is set to be a highly-anticipated summer transfer window in the coming months.

Portuguese star Ronaldo has been in brilliant form for Juventus since moving from Real Madrid in a £100million move in 2018, scoring 97 goals in 125 goals for the Turin club in all competitions.

However, Juventus’ failure to win the Champions League in Ronaldo’s three seasons in Italy has raised questions over the 36-year-old’s future with the Old Lady – who are facing a battle to finish in Serie A’s top four this term.

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici maintained last month there is no doubt that Ronaldo represents the future of Juventus despite claiming a new contract for the Portugal forward was not a priority.

‘It makes me laugh, I never would’ve thought Ronaldo could be put up for discussion’, he told Sky Sports Italia in March.

‘We’re talking about a player who is the current top scorer in Serie A and has won five Ballon d’Or awards.

‘He has already won a lot of titles with us and it’s a privilege to have him in our squad.

‘We will hold onto him and enjoy him as much as possible. We’re very happy to have him with us.’

Mbappe, meanwhile, has 122 goals in 162 appearances for PSG since joining them from Monaco in 2017 and has won three Ligue 1 titles with the Parisian club.

Unlike Ronaldo, Mbappe is still in the Champions League this season having scored twice in the French club’s 3-2 quarter-final first-leg win over Bayern Munich in midweek.

But PSG are also behind their rivals in their top-flight league title race, with Lille now six points ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a handful of games to go, with the 22-year-old forward hinting negativity about him in the press has harmed him.

Last week, Mbappe told RTL: ‘When you play for a club in your country, when you give everything from your national team. At a certain moment, it tires you out, yes.

‘It is different for the players who play abroad, who only come back to France for the national team.

‘Me, I am here all the time, so I am spoken about a lot more. But I was aware of this context when signing for PSG.

‘We will see for the future. Of course that (critics) plays a part too. Aside from that, it is not just that. The most important thing, is to feel good where you are and enjoy yourself every day.’
