A beachside pub has enforced a stringent ‘no effort, no entry’ dress code rules on patrons, sparking community outrage over the ‘bizarre’ restrictions.

The Beach House Hotel in Hervey Bay 200km north of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast posted its list of banned clothing online on Thursday.

Locals have kicked up a stink claiming the prohibited items which included ‘dirty or stained clothing, singlets and tank tops’ would be a killer for business at the pub.

The hotel listed a range of clothing banned from pub premises after 8pm, including workwear, tracksuits, fleeced hoodies and lingerie.

‘We do not allow workwear of any kind including steel-capped boots, dirty stained or otherwise poorly maintained clothing, singlets or tank tops,’ the pub said.

It has also banned ‘thongs or slides, tracksuits and fleeced hoodies, hats and no lingerie as outerwear’.

The venue added a little grace for patrons already at the venue when the time ticks over to 8pm.

‘If you are already on the premises for the purposes of enjoying a meal in the restaurant or gaming in our gaming lounge, you will be permitted to remain in those locations only,’ it said.

‘Entry will not be granted to other areas of the hotel.’

Those entering the pub on Friday or Saturdays after 8pm will also need to show proof of age with either a driver’s licence, passport or 18+ card.

The new regulations drew backlash on the hotel’s social media with locals asking why the rules were needed for a relaxed ‘beach community’.

Poll

Do you think the new dress code rules for the beachside venue are over the top?

‘Bit late for April fools don’t you think?’ one commented.

Another added: ‘So bizarre for a beach community.

A third predicted the rules would be a ‘great way to kill a business, tradies love a beer after work’.

‘For real it’s not the 1950’s anymore,’ a fourth said.

‘Does that include boob tubes, strapless tops/dresses??? I mean, if I can’t wear a singlet,’ another asked.

But some approved of the venue ‘getting some standards back’.

‘If you don’t like it don’t go…simple. No need to whine and complain…their house their rules…love the idea and getting some standards back,’ he said.

Beach House Hotel bartender Tascha Jordison called out one complaining patron on the social media page: ‘Just do the right thing, look respectable, and follow the rules. Very easy.’

‘If the dress code is stepping up to this level of standard I can only hope the entertainment and service does also,’ one local wrote.

But others couldn’t help make light of the clothing ban.

‘No eshays allowed,’ one joked.

‘Chuck some rhinestones on ya pluggers and a clasp on your singlet strap and you’re good to go boys,’ one more wrote.

‘Thongs are mandatory Australian attire!’ protested another.
