Pub explodes into violent brawl as six police officers are injured trying to break up the fight

Six police officers were assaulted and injured when they tried to intervene in a fight that erupted between pub patrons last night.

Police were called to the area to escort rowdy customers from the Queenscliff Brewhouse at 10pm last night on Gellibrand Street.

When police officers tried to escort a patron from the pub, two men allegedly assaulted them, 9 News Melbourne reports.

The man being escorted by police soon joined in and assaulted the officers.

Police chased them down as they ran off to a nearby laneway, where the officers had to deploy OC spray.

More patrons came in and tried to stop the officers from arresting the men.

Six police officers – one woman and five men – were injured during the fight before they were able to arrest six of the violent punters.

Another man turned himself in at the Geelong Police Station, according to 9 News.

The police officers are being treated in hospital for their injuries, which included swelling, along with hand and face injuries. Luckily, the injuries were non-life threatening and minor.

Two men were charged with assault, resisting police, and causing reckless injury. They are set to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court on the 5th of October, The Age reports.

Three men were released but could still face charges including hindering police and being drunk in a public place, while another man is expected to face the same charges, including assaulting police.

Another man was fined for being drunk in a public place.
