A Melbourne Cup punter has won $1 million after backing Rekindling to win the ‘race that stops a nation’.
The anonymous punter won the enormous sum of money on the TAB’s Cup Millionaire Promotion on Tuesday.
He was randomly selected by the TAB to tip a Cup winner from a pool of customers who placed a bet on races 1-4.

Their decision to back Rekindling made them $1 million richer.
The million dollar TAB promotion was offered to Victorian, ACT and NSW residents who placed bets on races 1-4 at Flemington.
A winner was then chosen at random to tip the Melbourne Cup winner and go in the draw to win the $1 million.
Ridden by jockey Corey Brown, Rekindling stormed home to win the 2017 Melbourne Cup on the 157th race day.
The victory was the sixth for legendary owner Lloyd Williams.

While one lucky punter cleaned up with his $1 million winnings, he was not the only racegoer to drop big money on the winning horse.
One punter bet $3,000 at $16, winning themselves $48,000 while another dropped $2,500 at $17 to collect $42,500.
