Qatar Airways, Delta and Emirates scoop the gongs in the Apex passenger awards

Delta has the best Wi-Fi, Emirates is top for entertainment and Qatar Airways named No1 for seats, service and food in airline awards voted for by passengers

Passengers say Qatar Airways has the most comfortable seats, the best cabin service and the best food and drink.

The Doha-based carrier picked up a trio of gongs at the Airline Passenger Experience Association (Apex) 2020 Passenger Choice Awards, which were held in Los Angeles on Monday.

Other winners were Emirates for its in-flight entertainment and Delta Air Lines for its on-board Wi-Fi.

The awards ‘recognise excellence in seat comfort, cabin service, food and beverage, entertainment and Wi-Fi’.

They are based on passenger feedback gathered through Apex’s partnership with TripIt, a travel-organising app.

Using a five-star scale, more than one million flights were assessed by passengers across nearly 600 airlines from around the world between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019.

The passengers provided anonymous ratings in the five sub-categories.

Speaking after the airline’s triple win, Qatar Airways Group chief executive, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, said: ‘To follow our success in the regional Passenger Choice Awards with a further three global Apex accolades is a huge achievement for our airline, and a tribute to the loyalty of our passengers from across the world.

‘As we focus on going from strength-to-strength over the coming year, we look forward to building upon this incredible foundation of success and will continue to set the highest of benchmarks to distinguish us from our competitors.’

Passengers on the airline can enjoy the in-flight entertainment on 13.3-inch screens in economy, 23-inch screens in business class and 32-inch screens in first class.

Meanwhile, best Wi-Fi winner, Delta Air Lines, offers free mobile messaging on Wi-Fi-enabled flights through iMessage, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Brian Kelly, CEO and founder of The Points Guy, took place during Apex expo, an exclusive member’s only event attended by more than 5,000 industry professionals, including representatives from more than 125 airlines.
