Queen has unusually close relationship with Meghan so she doesn’t feel isolated like Diana

Queen made an ‘unusual effort’ to form a close relationship with Meghan so she doesn’t feel isolated like Diana – even though Kate didn’t get the same treatment, royal commentator claims

  • Queen, 93, is said to have made a particular effort to make Meghan feel welcome
  • According to royal commentator monarch is keen to ‘learn from past lessons’
  • Royal doesn’t want Meghan, 38, to feel like an outside ‘as late Princess Diana did’

The Queen has struck up an ‘unusually close’ friendship with Meghan Markle, a royal commentator has claimed.

The monarch, 93, is said to have made a ‘particular effort’ to make the Duchess of Sussex, 38, feel welcome, extending an invite to Prince Harry’s wife on an array of royal engagements.

According to royal commentator Duncan Larcombe, it is an effort that ‘wasn’t afforded to Kate’, as her entrance into the royal family was more gradual.

The move is said to be an effort to ensure Meghan doesn’t feel like an outsider, as the late Princess Diana did when she joined the firm.

Speaking to Fabulous, Duncan said: ‘Meghan seems to have forged a particularly close relationship with the Queen if you compare that to when other people have married into the royal family.’

Referring to the Queen and Meghan’s joint engagement to open the new Mersey Gateway Bridge in Cheshire last June, he continued: ‘The Queen, last year in the first few months of Meghan’s entry into the royal family, made a particular and slightly unusual effort to welcome her in.

‘Unusual in the context of the trip on the royal train to do a royal engagement. I’m 99 per cent sure she’s never afforded that offer to Kate.’

Duncan added that this could be down to ‘lessons of the past’ where Princess Diana ‘pretty much felt like an outsider in the royal family’.

This comes following reports that the Queen invited Meghan to celebrate her 38th birthday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland over the weekend.

The Queen, 93, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, is said to be particularly fond of Meghan, who recently welcomed Archie with Prince Harry.

The trip would have been Meghan and Archie’s first trip to the Scottish Castle, and the invite from the monarch was said to be a ‘great honour’.
