Queen Letizia and Felipe VI of Spain attend engagement

Queen Letizia of Spain has kicked off 2018 with a busy month of social engagements.

The stylish Spanish royal, 45, looked elegant in a black-and-white ensemble as she attended the Diplomatic Corps Reception in Madrid’s Zarzuela Palace.

Sporting a dazzling white jacket and elegant black lace floor-length skirt, the mother-of-two was joined by husband King Felipe VI.

Wearing her highlighted hair loose and smoothed behind her ears, Letizia’s look showed perfect winter chic, with her crisp white blazer embellished with delicate buttons.

The former journalist turned royal teamed the jacket with a floor-length black skirt which featured delicate lace embroidery, and a pair of classic pumps.

Letizia looked slender alongside Felipe, who stood tall in a tailcoat and pinstripe trousers as the pair greeted their guests, members of the Spanish Diplomatic Corps.

The event usually takes place in the Throne Room of the Palace, where the King gives his annual speech before attendees enjoy lunch in the Hall of Columns.

The smart couple greeted an array of foreign diplomats, who put on colourful displays in their array of exquisite uniforms.

Stood against the sumptuous backdrop of Zarzuela Palace’s lavish interior, the VIP gathering certainly made a picturesque group.

Letizia started the year by attending the Victims of Terrorism Foundation Awards to hand out trophies for those affected by the Barcelona terror attacks in August 2017.

Hours later, a car attack in the seaside town of Cambrils killed another person early Friday

Just hours after the attack Letizia and Felipe travelled to the city where lead tributes to the victims as well as visiting survivors in hospital.
