It is widely celebrated across the country, with commemorative events taking place over several days.

The couple’s joint appearance comes after they celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on May 22.

After dating in secret, Felipe and Letizia announced their surprise engagement before tying the knot at Almudena Cathedral in Madrid on May 22, 2004.

For their big day, Letizia donned a gown boasting a statement high-standing collar and delicate embroidery, which she paired with a veil gifted by her future husband.

And she also wore the glittering Prussian tiara which had been worn by her mother-in-law, then Queen Sofia, on her wedding day in 1962.

It’s been a busy week for the Spanish queen, who was snapped at more than one engagement.

Among them was a much more pared back midweek outing, where she was spotted looking casual, yet elegant.

Letizia was snapped in a striped shirt as she stepped out in Madrid for a spot of shopping on Wednesday.

Letizia completed the ensemble with a pair of black pointed ballet pumps and a cross-body black leather bag.

She wore her chestnut locks loose, and matched the relaxed hair style with a natural make-up look.

During the casual outing, the royal appeared down to Earth, as she stopped to take selfies with people.
